This is a watercolor of an official image from Gankutsuou. I used the official image as a reference.
Anyway, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Christo is an excellent anime I saw this summer. It's based off the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas. The studio is Gonzo, who also made RomeoXJuliet. It takes place in futuristic space, and the main character is Albert Morcef (the brown hair guy). The Count is the blue-haired guy.
The art style is one of the most interesting I've ever seen. I describe it as a moving collage, which creates the sense of decadence in aristocratic France. It blends well with all the CGI spaceships they have. It might hurt your eyes at first, but after the 1st episode, it gets more mild. I watched the sub (both the dub and sub are on YouTube). I think if the art style is too complex, you might want to go with the dub, but the sub has an extra layer of depth because of the summaries at the beginning of each episode are in French.
I recommend it if you like drama, revenge, suspense, and heartbreak. But only if you're 16+.
