Digital drawing

Lately I bought a drawing tablet for personal use, so I've been easing back into drawing. I've had my eye on one since I've joined this site many ages ago, but didn't want to shell out the dough for Wacom's tablet monopoly where a basic one is like $70. Anyway, now you can get one for as low as $25, and while it might not be top of the line, they're good enough for most purposes.

I downloaded 2 different free drawing applications. The first is FireAlpaca, which isn't feature heavy, but relatively easy to use. If you like to do everything by hand without relying on fancy brushes or whatnot (although you could add fancy brushes), it's a decent program to use. The second is Krita, which has many fancy features and preset brushes and a few templates. Some of the tools (like calligraphy brush, whut?) aren't exactly intuitive for a beginner. For this, I still need to figure out how to adjust pressure settings so I don't have to press so hard for a thicker line, and how to paint patterns.

This isn't a set plan, but I might go through my gallery and redraw some of the things. Don't have any expectations though.

Update

It's been a year since my last journal update, so I'll just talk about what I've been up to--which is anime! It all started during the 2013 summer season. I never did the seasonal anime watching thing before (except for Chihayafuru 2, which doesn't count). I've also watched a lot of sports anime. Anyway, here are some recommendations from what I've seen recently:

Tsuritama: A touching show about friendship and fishing. It has bright visuals and a cheery, recorder soundtrack.

Noragami: A stylish show in a setting with gods, ghosts, and demons. But it's the characters who will leave an impression.

Silver Spoon: From the author of Fullmetal Alchemist. Really interesting show about farming. And the messages will resonate with today's youth.

I'm not very fond of the state of the front page of deviantART lately. The stuff seems to be lesser quality, and there isn't really anyway to adjust it. Maybe it'd be good to have customizable front pages besides organizing it by time or popularity. Like by categories. I usually have my front page set to most popular which is preferable but not much better than latest. I'd rather not see those "secrets" on the front page all the time. That's best reserved for some other format. It isn't art. Also, I'd like to see more diversity in the photography stuff besides photos of young white women all the time.

I have gone to look at the current front page, and while the top twenty-or-so aren't so great, I was pleasantly delighted to see better stuff for the next 100 deviations or so. Typically it seems that the stuff after the top page is thinly disguised poohrn, but it didn't get that way until after the top 120.

ALSO: I have gone back to a few of my old deviations and provided some commentary on them.

Sherlock series 3 has started filming today. The first episode is called The Empty Hearse.

How exciting!

Anyway, I should be working on my essay now which is due in 7 hours. Why must I procrastinate all the time? 3 more very painful pages to go.

It is finals week currently. Luckily, I already finished one last week. I just have this essay to do. After that, I'll spend the rest of today and tomorrow studying for my math final. Hopefully I'll edge in some sleeping time.

Clockwork Princess comes out tomorrow, which I'm very excited for.

For spring break, my plans are to climb a local mountain which I've never climbed to the top before. I also plan to read books, which I haven't done at all this year. The last book I read was Divergent.
